I have the exact same problem and have had the issue escalated to EA's 'specialists' who only shrugged, said they don't have technical support for it, and issued me a refund on the whopping $0.00 I spent on it. The one time I got past the loading screen was when someone advised me to delete and reinstall Origin. I didn't play it as I was on the line with customer support, so I quit and then loaded it up again a while later only to experience the same problem. I figured it was Origin screwing things up, so I disabled Origin in-game. Origin is likely creating some buggy preference file for the game, but I could very well be wrong. It was free, so I really wish I could just play it without Origin getting in the way. If anyone knows how to do that, that might just solve the problem.
Unfortunately, as it is, EA acquires all these games and then just washes their hands of the technical support. Happened with their (paid) iOS SimCity game, and now they're doing it with this. All they do is see that it isn't listed, say there's nothing they can do, and then tell you to deal with it (Seriously, they said, 'We've allowed you to keep the game file in case you ever get it working on your own in the future.'
Gee, thanks, technical specialist.) I've contacted PopCap support and hopefully they'll get back to me with some suggestions. But I'm not holding my breath, I'm putting my money on, 'Sorry, that's EA's problem now.' But here's a summary of my issue: When I load Zuma's Revenge on my iMac running OSX 10.9.5, I get the loading screen with a very laggy cursor, and just over halfway through the loading progress bar, it crashes and closes without any error messages. Deleting and reinstalling Origin fixed it for only for the first time loading the game after the fresh install. Deleting and reinstalling the game doesn't help, disabling Origin in-game doesn't help, EA technical support doesn't help. Please help me.
After over a month of trying to get the game to work, filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (a long, long story), and talking to someone in the Customer Relations department and PopCap support, I never got a fix. But here's what happened: The Customer Relations person told me to ask PopCap for a replacement. PopCap told me to ask EA for a replacement.
Real helpful, guys. In my last email, I think I might have convinced them to replace the game with another $4.99 game (I'm choosing a SimCity DLC because at least I know that works and is being actively supported.
For now) even though it was an 'On the House' game that I got for free. Their official statement (on both sides) is that it's simply not compatible with later updates of Mac OSX. There's now a warning that says, 'It's only been tested with 10.4 and 10.6' or something. I'm not sure if that was there before or they did it because of the issues people have been having. It's still being sold, just presumably to people who haven't upgraded their operating system in TEN YEARS. That's their official solution: keep selling it and warn you it might not work anymore. If you bought it, ask for a refund or a replacement because they're not lifting a finger to come up with a solution or develop an update.
Meanwhile, they've kept it in my library, so I'll try and figure out a workaround. But at this point I can just hope for the SimCity DLC. All I really wanted was for support to look into it and see what would be causing the game to crash, but they refuse. Instead of supporting their games, they're just passing it off as a lost cause.
This is the very reason I haven't spent a penny on an EA game in two years— terrible customer service and a general lack of interest in fixing their buggy games. I'm especially disappointed in PopCap who took the exact same route— blaming the user for UPGRADING THEIR OPERATING SYSTEM. If you're going to sell it, update it or at least figure out solutions. I got Zuma's Revenge so I could play Zuma's Revenge, not so I'd eventually have to compromise for a replacement because they can't be bothered to support the games they sell. It's especially concerning now that it's no longer free.
So if you're a Mac user who just spent $5 on this game, get a refund because they're not going to help you. I have Zuma’s Revenge running on High Sierra 10.13.4. It began crashing and hanging up in Sierra, but I found if I moved the file out of Applications and onto the desktop, it would run.
I have moved it around - inside Applications, inside Applictions/Games, on the desktop, etc. It now works from Applications. It must have had to move support files around until it could find them. Occasionally, it will open up, but not run. No errors or crashing, just wont run. I noticed the menu bar didn’t show Zumas Revenge, but Finder, or something else.
When I cycled to Zuma in the menu bar, it would run. Occasionally, a restart would work. Second, I understand High Sierra 10.13.15 will not run 32 bit programs. That would be the death knell, since EA has abandoned Zuma. The only fix here is to have a bootable drive with HS 10.13.14 or lower.
